OVERMAS EXPLAINS WHY BARCELONA FAILED TO SIGN DE JONG

But he thinks they’ll be back in January
Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars reckons the reason Barcelona did not sign Frenkie De Jong over the summer was because they did not value him enough.
Recent reports have claimed that Barcelona offer Ajax €25-30 million for their midfielder but were told he was not for sale. Tottenham also apparently made a bigger offer and met with the same response.
De Jong has said he expects to spend the season with Ajax, but Overmars is expecting Barcelona to return when the transfer window opens in January.
“Barcelona did not value De Jong,” he said.
”Barcelona may return for Frenkie in January. Players will not leave in that period.”

Barcelona are going to have to seriously up their big if they are to lure De Jong away. The midfielder’s value may increase too if he continues to shine and more clubs show an interest.https://goal.com

Rivals City and Arsenal lost out as United snapped up Boonen, then 16, in 2015.
But this summer the winger, now 19, snubbed a new three-year contract because he wanted first-team football and returned to Belgium with KV Oostende on a free.
Neither United nor Genk would comment but CAS confirmed it was a dispute over the training compensation payable by United.
